Yu Darvish is the biggest thing to hit Dallas Sports forever. This is not because he can win the Cy Young Award for the Texas Rangers for the first time in franchise history. It’s because he could do what no other ace in team history has done, bring a World Series trophy to town.

The Texas Rangers have never before had a pitcher burst onto the scene like this. It may not come close to the numbers Fergie Jenkins scored in 1974 with 25 wins and 29 complete games, but that was a different era with the four-man rotation.

The enthusiasm for Darvish was enormous, and in no way can you minimize what everyone thought he would do here. The thing is, after just one entry, he has lived up to everything everyone said.

In the first inning of his major league career, Darvish allowed four earned runs. It seemed like it didn’t belong. Fortunately for Rangers fans, it only lasted that one inning.

Since that first inning, he has thrown thirty-two more, and has allowed just four more earned runs. He has won three games in a row and is 4-0 on the season, putting him on track to go 27-0.

Will the year end 27-0? No. He’ll have tough times ahead of him as the league figures it out a bit more. But they are a long way from finding out soon.

His last three starts have been against three very good, if not great in some cases, offensive teams in Detroit, New York and Toronto. During those three games, he has thrown 21.2 innings and has allowed just two earned runs. It has certainly been dominating so far.

The heat in Texas is about to increase in the countryside as we get closer and closer to summer. This will be a heat that Darvish has never faced before, and he has surpassed many pitchers in the past. Darvish will be no exception. The heat will wear him down eventually, but the Rangers will be cautious about how many innings he throws to counter it in the end. They certainly want it to be as cool as possible in September.

Yu Darvish is just what the Rangers needed after being one strike away from winning the World Series and losing last year. It tore at the heart and sole of this team at the time, but after you never say their manager, the Rangers have recovered better than anyone would have thought. Part of that credit must go to Darvish. It has silenced the criticism, for now. It has lived up to expectations, for now.

As long as he continues to string together quality starts while mixing in some greats, as we’ve already seen, the Rangers are on track to finally break through with their first World Series win.
