2008 St Louis Rams preliminary report

The St. Louis Rams must have done something wrong in 2007 as they finished with a 3-13 record. Things have to change for the Rams next season and this time it’s not just the uniforms. (And yes, of course the uniforms will change starting next year) Team management has been pretty aggressive in recruiting talent for the 71st season, signing talent like Josh Brown, Jacob Bell and Anthony Becht. However, all eyes were on the draft, as the team had a chance to nab some of the hottest names among young talent.

Before the team started signing names, they first decided to trade with some of their rivals, including the Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, and Cincinnati Bengals. With the negotiations, the team lost defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy and Ryan Fitzpatrick and gained offensive tackle Adam Goldberg. There was a lot of sacrifice at stake this draft season; How did St. Louis score with all eight of their picks?

The first-round pick belonged to defensive end Chris Long of Virginia. He was followed by Houston wide receiver Donnie Avery and Toledo offensive tackle John Greco. There were two fourth-round picks and they went to cornerback Justin King and wide receiver Keenan Burton from Kentucky. The fifth round brought in offensive guard Roy Schuening from Oregon State. Rounding out this year’s roster were linebackers Chris Chamberlain of Tulsa and David Vobora of Idaho.

How did the fans react and how did the experts receive the draft picks? The Rams had a great opportunity with the second overall pick, even if Jake Long had already been picked. They had to make a tough decision between Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey. Rest assured, many in management were divided, but in the end, Long seemed like the safer choice. Long received high praise for his work ethic and great athleticism. There’s no question Long will start, and at a much-needed position. Long will be a welcome addition to the team and will almost definitely help improve the team’s overall defense.

Donnie Avery received less congratulations but plenty of respectful and confused applause. No one expected Avery to be picked as the first wide receiver off the board, especially when he didn’t necessarily have a higher rating than any other available member. However, management felt that Avery would be a better fit for the team. Unfortunately, Avery isn’t a full-fledged receiver, despite his great speed. He may be a superstar in the making, but he may not be ready to fly just yet.

John Greco was brought in to improve the failing offensive line, which was plagued by various injuries from 2007. Greco is considered a short-term fix for the offense, though there may be conflict if it comes to moving Greco in Alex Barron or Orlando. Peace. territory. While the Rams made some questionable moves early on, they managed to address their most crucial needs. If the team can stay healthy and continue to develop young talent, they may be able to improve this season.
