Annecy is a territory of the Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It is located at the northern end of Lake Annecy (Lac d’Annecy), which is 35 kilometers south of Geneva.
The city of Annecy is surrounded by mountains. These mountains are Le Mont Verier, Le Semnoz, La Tournette and Parmelan. The city of Annecy is the scene of the second round of negotiations of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in 1949.
Annecy as host of the Tour de France
Annecy hosted the 18th round of the Tour de France. It was a starting / ending point for an individual time trial around Lake Annecy. It was announced as one of three cities that will host the 2018 Winter Olympics along with Munich in Germany and Pyeongchang in South Korea. Annecy will be the fourth French city to host the Winter Olympics after Chamonix (1924), Grenoble (1968) and Albertville (1992).
