Unakite is an altered form of granite, composed of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and generally colorless quartz, solidly bonded together creating its beautiful pistachio and pink color. The stone takes its name from the Greek word epidosis, which means “to grow together”, and it is these materials together that convey the meaning that “what joins together belongs to what is together”. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 with a monoclinic crystal structure.
It exists in various shades of green and pink and generally has a mottled appearance with a hint of soft peach on a cool green background, making it a much loved and magical gemstone.
