If you’re a registered nurse, you must find out how many CEUS you need to maintain your license. Not every state requires CEUs, though. APRNs need to obtain 15 contact hours of continuing education every two years. This is on top of the required 20 hours for all nurses. The APRNs have additional requirements, such as prescribing. Whether or not you want to pursue this option, you must have at least 12 hours of continuing education every two years to stay registered. Further, APRNs must complete an additional five contact hours of pharmacotherapeutics CE to maintain their licenses.

If your employer offers free CEUs, it is a great way to earn CEUs. However, if you cannot find a free course, try a paid one. Moreover, paid CEUs are tax-deductible.
Continuing education courses are available in many disciplines. Many APRNs, for example, take courses on financial planning and resume development. Other CE requirements relate to resume preparation and interview techniques. These CEs are required to be maintained for at least four years. If you do not complete these courses, you’ll have to wait until the following licensing period to renew your license. This will give you plenty of time to decide on the next course that suits you best.
